TABLE OF CONTENTS

When playing music with your WiiM device, you may experience playback issues, such as:

  • Stuttering/Crackling: Audio plays with brief pops, clicks, or interruptions.

  • Complete Dropouts: Playback stops entirely for a few seconds, then resumes or skips to the next track.

  • Frequent Skipping: Tracks are skipped before finishing.

  • Won’t Start Playing: Audio doesn’t begin at all or stops immediately after starting.

Since these problems can occur under different playback scenarios, the causes and troubleshooting steps vary. This guide provides targeted solutions for each scenario to help you resolve playback problems efficiently.

Scenario 1: Cloud Music Streaming

When playback problems occur during cloud music streaming (e.g., Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, Amazon), try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure your WiiM device has good Wi-Fi strength. To improve Wi-Fi strength, refer to How to Solve Weak Wi-Fi Signal Issues with Your WiiM Device.
  2. Play a local file (e.g. FLAC via DLNA or USB) to check if the issue is specific to music services.

  3. Try other music services to see if the issue is specific to one platform.

  4. Try streaming lower-resolution audio to check for improvements.

  5. Try enabling Smart Network Enhancement and disabling Wi-Fi Roaming in the WiiM Home app.

Scenario 2: Streaming from Phone

When playing audio from your phone (e.g., via AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, or local music), try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure your phone and WiiM device have good Wi-Fi strength. To improve Wi-Fi strength, refer to How to Solve Weak Wi-Fi Signal Issues with Your WiiM Device.

  2. Try disabling Wi-Fi Roaming on your WiiM device using the WiiM Home app.

  3. If you are streaming audio via Bluetooth, try increasing the Bluetooth playback latency. For details, see Adjust Bluetooth Playback Latency on WiiM.

  4. Try streaming from another phone.

Scenario 3: Playing Local Files

When playing audio from local files (DLNA, NAS, or USB), try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure your NAS/DLNA server and WiiM device have good Wi-Fi strength. To improve Wi-Fi strength, refer to How to Solve Weak Wi-Fi Signal Issues with Your WiiM Device.

  2. Ensure the device running your NAS/DLNA server is powered on and does not enter sleep mode.

  3. Try disabling Wi-Fi Roaming on your WiiM device using the WiiM Home app.

Scenario 4: Playing Internet Radio & Podcasts

When playing internet radio and podcasts, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure your WiiM device has good Wi-Fi strength. To improve Wi-Fi strength, refer to How to Solve Weak Wi-Fi Signal Issues with Your WiiM Device.

  2. Try switching to a different station to see if the issue persists.

  3. Try enabling Smart Network Enhancement and disabling Wi-Fi Roaming in the WiiM Home app.

Scenario 5: Wired Audio Sources

When playing music from a wired audio source (e.g., via Phono, RCA, Optical, Coaxial, HDMI ARC), try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. If your turntable doesn’t have a built-in preamp, make sure to connect it to an external preamp before connecting to the WiiM.

Note: WiiM Ultra has a built-in preamp.

  2. Ensure the correct audio format is set on the audio source. For example, certain WiiM devices don't support Dolby Digital.

Note: WiiM Ultra, WiiM Amp Ultra, WiiM Amp Pro support Dolby Digital.

  3. If connecting to a TV via HDMI, make sure to use the TV’s HDMI ARC port and enable the HDMI-CEC setting in the TV’s settings. For details, refer to Troubleshooting No Sound Issues with HDMI TV Input on WiiM Devices.

  4. Check that the cable is undamaged and securely connected.

  5. Ensure the correct input source is selected on the WiiM device.

Scenario 6: Multi-Room / Grouped Playback

When using grouped WiiM devices for multi-room playback, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure all WiiM devices in the group have good Wi-Fi strength. To improve Wi-Fi strength, refer to How to Solve Weak Wi-Fi Signal Issues with Your WiiM Device.

  2. Try reducing network activity (like streaming videos or large downloads) to ensure sufficient bandwidth for your WiiM devices.

  3. Try disabling Wi-Fi Roaming for WiiM devices using  the WiiM Home app.

If none of the above troubleshooting steps resolve the issue, please go to More tab > Feedback in the WiiM Home app to send a support ticket. We will look into it as soon as we receive it.
