If you're experiencing Wi-Fi connection issues when setting up your WiiM device via Wi-Fi, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
1. Check Your Wi-Fi Network Compatibility
Check your Wi-Fi network and avoid using any of the incompatible networks listed below:
- Wireless internet connections such as satellite or LTE routers
- Guest networks or networks (e.g., a Wi-Fi network with an SSID containing 'guest') that require a portal login page
- VPNs that block access to local network resources
2. Check and Disable VPN
Open Settings on your smartphone and verify if the VPN setting is disabled.
If the VPN setting is enabled as shown in the example below, toggle it off to disable the VPN.
3. Verify Wi-Fi Password
Verify that the Wi-Fi password you are entering is correct. Incorrect passwords are a common cause of connection issues. For detailed instructions, see Check my router's password.
4. Update WiiM Home App
Make sure that you are using the latest version of the WiiM Home app. Check for updates in the app store of your smart phone or tablet.
5. Optimize Wi-Fi Signal and Performance
- Ensure the WiiM device is placed close to your Wi-Fi router to maintain a strong Wi-Fi signal. Weak signals can cause connection failures.
- If using a dual-band router, try connecting the WiiM device to the 5 GHz band for better performance. For detailed instructions on seperating the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands on your router, see Separating the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands on your router.
6. Restart Devices
Restart your Wi-Fi router, WiiM device, and your smartphone or tablet. This can help resolve temporary connection issues.
7. Check Wi-Fi Router Settings
- Ensure that DHCP is enabled on your router.
- Ensure that the router's encryption is not set to WEP, as it is not supported.
- Check firewall settings or parental controls to ensure that your router is not blocking the WiiM device.
- If you're using a corporate network, make sure to enable the user and password-based authentication. Other authentication methods are not supported.
8. Assign a Static IP Address
If the issue continues, configure a static IP address for your WiiM device in your Wi-Fi router's settings to avoid IP conflicts. For more information on fixing IP conflicts, see How to fix ip address conflict?.
9. Use Ethernet (If Supported) or Hotspot to Update Firmware
If your WiiM device supports Ethernet, try connecting it directly to your router using an Ethernet cable.
If your device doesn't support Ethernet, create a mobile hotspot and connect your WiiM device to the hotspot. For detailed instructions, see How to Connect Your WiiM Device to a Mobile Hotspot.
Once your WiiM device is connected via Ethernet or hotspot, upgrade it to the latest firmware. After the upgrade, try to reconnect to your router via Wi-Fi.
10. Check Solutions for Specific Routers
Some Wi-Fi routers have known connection issues. Please review the solutions to specific router issues to see if they apply to your router.
11. Reach Out to WiiM Support
If the issue continues, please go to More -> Feedback in the WiiM Home app to send us feedback. We will check it immediately after receiving it.
