This guide will help you resolve the issue where a WiiM device cannot be added to a room using the Google Home app on iOS.
Issue Description
After successfully setting up your WiiM device and enabling the Google Cast setting, you may encounter the following issue when attempting to add it to a room using the Google Home app on iOS:
- Your WiiM device appears as a "local device" in the app, but the Add to room option is unavailable (as shown in the below screenshot), preventing it from being added to a room.
This issue persists even after performing a factory reset on your WiiM device, reconfiguring the Wi-Fi connection, reinstalling the Google Home app, and updating iOS to the latest version. This issue occurs specifically on the iOS version of the Google Home app.
Solution
Follow these steps to resolve this issue:
- Press and hold the Play button on your WiiM device for 10 seconds to perform a factory reset and initiate the setup process.
- Open the WiiM Home app.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. During this setup, do not enable Google Cast.
- Open the Google Home app on iOS.
- Navigate to the Devices tab.
- Tap Add and select Google Nest or partner device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to locate your WiiM device and add it to a room.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully add your WiiM device to a room using Google Home on iOS.
