Overview

WiiM multi-room music is a powerful feature that allows multiple WiiM devices to play the same music at the same time, perfectly synchronized across your home.  In addition, with WiiM multi-room music, you can group two speakers connected to two WiiM devices as a stereo pair for a wider, more immersive sound stage.

Key benefits of WiiM multi-room music include:

  • Cross-source broadcasting: Unlike other multi-room music that only supports network-based streaming, WiiM multi-room music supports all audio inputs (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Line In, Optical, and HDMI ARC).

  • Perfect synchronization: All speakers stay in sync, free of delay or echo.

  • Flexible grouping: Easily group and ungroup devices through the app based on your needs.

  • Easy volume control: Adjust volume individually or together.

This tutorial will guide you through how to use WiiM multi-room music to enhance your listening experience.

How It Works

To use WiiM multi-room music, you need to create a WiiM multi-room group where one WiiM device serves as the group lead and the others act as followers:

  • Group Lead: This device receives audio from its input source and broadcasts it to other WiiM devices simultaneously.

  • Followers: The other WiiM devices receive the audio from the group lead and play it in sync.

Create a WiiM Multi-Room Group

Before You Begin

  • Install the WiiM Home app on a mobile device.

  • Prepare two or more WiiM devices.

  • If you want to play music from an external audio source (e.g., a CD player, turntable, or PC), connect it to a WiiM device (This WiiM device should be selected as the group lead).

  • Connect the mobile device and all WiiM devices to the same network.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the WiiM Home app on your mobile device.

  2. Navigate to the Devices tab.

  3. Find the device you want to use as the group lead and tap the Chain Link iconin the top-right corner.
  4. Select the other WiiM devices to include as followers, then tap Done.

The newly created WiiM multi-room group will now appear in the Devices tab.

The first device in the group is the group lead. For example, in the below screenshot, WiiM Ultra-69BE is the group lead.

Play Multi-Room Music from an External Audio Source

Connect an external audio source—such as a TV, CD player, turntable, or PC—to the group lead device in your WiiM multi-room group. Once the external audio source starts playing, the audio will be streamed to all devices in the group for synchronized playback.

For more details, refer to How to Stream TV Audio to Multiple Locations using WiiM Multi-room Audio Feature and How to Play WiiM Multi-Room Music from Your CD Player, Turntable, or PC.

Play Multi-Room Music from the WiiM Home App

In the WiiM Home app, go to the Devices tab and select your WiiM multi-room group. Then, start playing music—audio will automatically stream in sync across all devices in the group.

Play Multi-Room Music from a Third-Party App

Play music in your favorite music app (e.g., Spotify or Qobuz), then stream music to the WiiM multi-room group. In this case, the group name will match the name of group lead device.

Some music apps don't support WiiM multi-room music. For details, see Limitations and Considerations of WiiM Multi-room Music.

Adjust Volume in WiiM Multi-Room Music

You can easily control the volume during multi-room music playback:

  • Adjust group volume to change the level for all devices at once.

  • Adjust volume for each device separately.

Adjust Group Audio Delay

During WiiM multi-room music playback, you can adjust the Group Audio Delay setting to improve audio-video sync with TV inputs or enhance stability for multi-channel playback.

For details, see Using the Group Audio Delay Setting for WiiM Multi-Room Audio.

Ungroup Devices from a WiiM Multi-Room Group

If you want to switch to individual playback instead of multi-room music playback, you can ungroup WiiM devices from a WiiM multi-room group.

Steps:

  1. Open the WiiM Home app on your mobile device.

  2. Navigate to the Devices tab.

  3. Tap the Chain Link iconin the top-right corner of the WiiM multi-room group.

  4. Uncheck the WiiM devices you want to remove from the group, then tap Done to confirm.

The removed devices can now play music independently.

Create a Persistent Group for WiiM Multi-Room Music

WiiM multi-room music also supports persistent groups, allowing you to predefine your desired WiiM multi-room groups. When playing music, you can easily switch between any of the predefined groups without reconfiguring your setup.

See How to Set Up and Use WiiM Persistent Group for more details.

Set Up a Stereo Pair

You can pair two WiiM devices to create a left and right stereo setup for a wider, more immersive soundstage.

Steps:

  1. In the WiiM Home app, create a multi-room group with two WiiM devices. For detailed instructions, refer to Create a WiiM Multi-Room Group.

  2. Tap the channel icon and assign one device as (left channel) and the other as (right channel).

Set Up a WiiM Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound System

With WiiM multi-room music, you can group multiple WiiM devices (e.g., WiiM Ultra, WiiM Amp Pro, WiiM Edition A10 MKII speaker, or WiiM Edition C10 MKII speaker) to create a WiiM Dolby 5.1 surround sound system, elevating your audio experience with dynamic and immersive sound.
