The WiiM Home app supports the media server index feature, enabling you to create a media library for music resources stored on a media server. 


The media library offers the following benefits:

  • Instant access to your content

  • Enhanced metadata management

  • Improved user interface


 This tutorial will guide you through building and managing your media library. 


Supported Media Servers


This feature is currently available for the following media servers:

  • Synology
  • QNAP
  • Windows Media Shared Player
  • WiiM Home PC App

How to Build a Media Library


Follow these steps to build a media library for the first time:


  1. Open the WiiM Home app.

  2. Go to the Browse tab, then tap Home Music Share in the My Library section.

  3. Tap your media server in the list.

  4. When the following pop-up window appears, tap Go to Build to start the scanning.

  5. Once the scan is completed, tap Let's Get Started to finish the process.

How to Manage a Media Library


Access Media Library


Once a media library is built from your media server, every time you open the media server from Home Music Share, you will be accessing the media library. 



Re-build Media Library


If you have updated the music resources on the media server, follow these steps to re-build the media libary and reflect the changes:


  1. Open the WiiM Home app.

  2. Go to the Browse tab, then tap Home Music Share in the My Library section.

  3. Tap your media server to open it.

  4. Tap the three-dot (...) option in the top-right corner, then choose Rescan Your Music Server.

  5. Once the rescan is completed, tap Let's Get Started to finish the process.


Disable Media Library


If you want to disable the media library and revert to the legacy mode, follow these steps:


  1. Open the WiiM Home app.

  2. Go to the Browse tab, then tap Home Music Share in the My Library section.

  3. Tap your media server to open it.

  4. Tap the three-dot (...) option in the top-right corner, then choose Switch to Legacy Mode.

Once the media library is disabled, you'll need to rebuild it if you wish to use it again.

How to Explore Music Resources in Media Library


The media library automatically organizes all your music resources into the following categories:


  • Albums
  • Groups tracks by album.
  • Shows the total number of albums.
  • When you open an album, the tracks from that album will be displayed. Other albums (if any) by the same artist will also be shown.
  • Artists
  • Groups albums by artist.
  • Shows the total number of artists.
  • When you select an artist from the list, you can view that artist's albums and the tracks in the album.
  • Tracks
  • Displays all individual tracks in your library.
  • Shows the total number of tracks.
  • You can select a track to play.
  • Playlists
  • Displays all the playlists.
  • Shows the total number of playlists.
  • Genres 
  • Groups tracks based on their genre.
  • Shows the total number of genres.


You can follow the below instructions to sort music resources, change the view of music resources, and search music resources.


Sort Music Resources


Some categories (Albums, Artists, and Tracks) allow you to sort music resources as follows:

  1. Open the media server.

  2. Select a category, such as Albums, Artists, or Tracks.

  3. Tap the Sorting iconon the top-left of the screen.

  4. Choose your preferred sorting option. The sorting options vary by category. For example, in the Tracks category, you can sort by Title, Artist, or Album.

  5. You'll see music resources sorted according to your selected option.


Change the View of Music Resources  


You can change the view of music resources in some categories (Albums, Artists, Playlists, and Genres):

  1. Open the media server.

  2. Select a category, such as Albums, Artists, Playlists, or Genres.

  3. Tap the List icon or the Grid iconto switch the view.


Search Music Resources in the Media Library


  1. Open the media server.

  2. Tap the Search iconon the top of the screen.

  3. Type your search information to start the search.

  4. Choose a criteria (Top, Albums, Artists, Tracks, or Playlists ) to filter the search result.

Remember to periodically rescan your media server if you add or delete songs to keep your library up to date.
