This tutorial provides practical guidance on using WiiM's Room Correction feature to optimize sound quality, based on valuable tips shared in a WiiM forum user's post. These practical tips make it easier and more effective to use Room Correction for achieving optimal sound performance.


1. Place Your Speakers and Subwoofer


  • Speakers Placement
    Place them close to the wall behind. If they have a bass-reflex port, leave about a 5 cm gap. This shifts the primary SBIR cancellation to a higher, less noticeable frequency.

  • Subwoofer Placement
    Position it in a room corner. This increases bass output through boundary reinforcement, giving extra headroom for later room correction fine-tuning.

2. Set Up Your Subwoofer


  • Subwoofer Crossover Frequency
    Set the subwoofer crossover frequency typically to 80 Hz.

    It's ideal if you can measure the in-room response with Room EQ Wizard to fine-tune the crossover. If not, you should still be able to achieve solid results by ear.


  • Subwoofer Level
    Adjust the subwoofer level so it matches the loudspeakers. It’s fine if the sub sounds slightly louder at this stage, as room correction will balance it later.


3. Synchronize Speaker and Subwoofer Delays 


Use the automatic Subwoofer & Speakers Sync function in the WiiM Home app to calibrate the relative delays between the speakers and the subwoofer. For detailed instructions, see Tutorial: Syncing Your Subwoofer with Main Speakers.


Tip: For best results, place the WiiM device at the listening position during speaker and subwoofer delay synchronization, as the WiiM device's built-in microphone is used for measurement.



4. Configure the Room Correction Settings


Refer to the screenshot or table below for the recommended RoomFit settings:

Target Curve: B&K

Freq: 20 Hz to 400 Hz 

Note: If your subwoofer does not reach 20 Hz, use the lower frequency limit specified in the subwoofer’s specification sheet instead.


Max Gain: 12 dB

Min Gain: -12dB

Max Q:10 (if no EQ boosts or positive filters are applied)
Max Q: 5(if you want to be more conservative)
Note: Using 5 will make the adjustments less precise in reducing resonance peaks.

Non-Boost Mode: Enabled

Subwoofer Calibration: Enabled (if using a subwoofer)

Smoothing: 1/12 octave

Multiple Measurements (Beta): 
Disabled

Other Settings:
  • Moving Mic Measurement (Beta): Enabled (if spatial averaging is required)
    Note:  this measurement method is more sensitive to environmental noise.
     
  • Room Correction Type: Individual Channel Room Correction (Select this type during the room correction process)

5. Perform Room Correction
