To ensure optimal performance, your WiiM device should maintain strong signal strength. You can verify this by navigating to Device Settings > Network Status in the WiiM Home app.
If your WiiM device doesn't display a signal strength level of Very Good or Excellent, follow the steps below to improve its signal strength.
How to Improve Signal Strength
1. Consider Your Router’s Location
For the best coverage, position it centrally in your home and in an open area—like on a desk or shelf—rather than inside a cabinet or closet. Also, avoid placing other devices directly above or beside it.
2. Place WiiM Device Closer to Router
Place your WiiM device closer to the router and avoid obstructions like walls or large appliances, which can weaken the signal.
3. Reduce Sources of Wireless Interference
Wireless interference can weaken the signal and impact your WiiM device's performance. To optimize performance, keep the following devices at least 18” (0.5 m) away from your WiiM device:
- Cordless or DECT phones
- Wireless video transmitters or security cameras
- Wireless audio systems
- Baby monitors
- Wireless cable and set-top boxes
- Smart home device hubs
- External monitors and LCD displays
- Microwave ovens
4. Use the 5GHz Network
Connect your WiiM device to the 5GHz network for better performance and less interference. You can enforce this connection by enabling 5 GHz Only in Network Status in the WiiM Home app.
If you are using a dual-band router with the same SSID (network name ) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, seperate the bands by assigning a unique SSID to each. For detailed instructions, refer to Separating the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands on your router. After network seperation, connect your WiiM device to the 5GHz network.
5. Restart Your Router and WiiM Device
Restart both your router and WiiM device to fix temporary connectivity issues and refresh their connections.
6. Disable Wi-Fi Roaming on a Mesh Network
If you're using a mesh network, disable Wi-Fi Roaming in Network Status of the WiiM Home app to prevent unstable connections when switching between access points.
7. Use an Ethernet Connection
If possible, connect your WiiM device to the router using an Ethernet cable for a more stable, faster connection.
8. Update Your Firmware
Ensure both your router and WiiM device are running the latest firmware to improve performance and resolve potential bugs.
After following these tips, you can improve your WiiM device's Wi-Fi signal and enjoy a more reliable connection.
