Introduction
The Parametric EQ, or Parametric Equalizer, stands as a cornerstone in the realm of audio processing. This tool transcends the capabilities of traditional graphic EQs, which are limited by fixed frequency bands. In contrast, a Parametric EQ allows users to precisely adjust frequency bands to achieve highly customized sound tuning.
Now, with support for Per-Source Parametric EQ in the WiiM system, users can configure independent EQ settings for each audio source (e.g., Line In, Optical In, HDMI ARC, etc). This ensures that every audio source is optimized for its own sound characteristics and listening environment.
Whether you're a professional audio engineer fine-tuning specific input signals, or a music enthusiast looking to enhance each device's sound signature, the Per-Source Parametric EQ provides unmatched control and precision—making it an essential part of any serious audio setup.
Four Parameters in the Parametric EQ
The Per-Source Parametric EQ supports up to 10 bands for each input source.
In each band, you need to configure the following four parameters:
- Freq: Specifies the center frequency to target.
- Q (Quality Factor/Bandwidth): Defines the range of frequencies surrounding the center frequency that will be impacted.
- Gain: Determines the level of boost or cut applied to the chosen frequency range.
- Filter Type: Includes Peak (PK), High Shelf (HS), and Low Shelf (LS).
- HS: Boosts or cuts all frequencies above a chosen point.
- LS: Boosts or cuts all frequencies below a chosen point.
- PK (or Bell Curve Filters): Allows precise adjustments by boosting or cutting a specific frequency range.
High Pass and Low Pass filters will be supported in the future. These filters remove frequencies above or below a selected cutoff point, respectively.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Per-Source Parametric EQ
- Open the WiiM Home app on your mobile device.
- Go to the Devices tab, tap the Device Settings icon
of your WiiM device.
- Select EQ in the Sound section.
- Select the audio source you want to customize (e.g., Wi-Fi, Line In, Optical In, or HDMI ARC, etc).
- Switch to the Parametric EQ tab and toggle on EQ.
- Scroll down to view all 10 EQ bands. Each band allows you to adjust four parameters.
- To adjust parameter settings for one EQ band:
- First, tap on a band to select it. The corresponding numeric indicator will appear in the graph.
- Next, tap the Filter field of the band to choose a filter type.
- Then, drag the numberic indicator in the graph to adjust Freq and Gain.
To adjust the Q value, tap on the Q field and manually input a value.Note: We've integrated an advanced algorithm to prevent clipping issues, so high gain adjustments in the Graphic EQ or Parametric EQ won't cause clipping.
- First, tap on a band to select it. The corresponding numeric indicator will appear in the graph.
- Repeat Step 7 to fine-tune settings for other bands as needed.
- Your EQ settings are automatically applied to the selected audio source. Tap Save to store your EQ settings with a custom name for future use or for other functions, such as Presets.
By following these steps, you can effectively utilize the Parametric EQ to tailor your audio experience to your preferences.
