The WiiM Home app lets you configure the DNS server for your WiiM device. The DNS server resolves music services' domain names into IP addresses required for network connections. Using a faster DNS server shortens lookup time, enabling quicker playback starts and smoother streaming.
A DNS query occurs only when the WiiM device doesn't have an IP address for a streaming service's domain name. After the query, the device caches the result, allowing future connections to use the cached IP directly without repeating the DNS lookup.Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the WiiM Home app.
- Go to the Devices tab, then tap the Device Settings icon
of your WiiM device. - Select Network Status > DNS Server.
- Choose one of the following DNS server settings:
- Auto (Recommended setting): The WiiM device automatically perform DNS queries twoards a set of pre-defined DNS servers and select the first result from the fastest DNS server. If Pre-playback Network Check is enabled, it checks all the results from the fastest DNS server to choose the best one. This may add about 0.3–0.8 seconds to the start time.
It is recommended to set the DNS server to Auto and enable Pre-playback Network Check.
- Manual: Allows you to specify or choose a DNS server for the WiiM device to use (e.g., Google 8.8.8.8, Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Router DNS).
Router DNS means the WiiM device uses the DNS server provided by your router.
- Once finished, tap Save to apply the settings.
If you notice slower performance after configuration, you can return to this menu at any time to adjust the DNS server setting for improved results.
