Home Assistant is an open-source home automation platform that helps you control smart devices from different brands in one place. By integrating your WiiM devices with Home Assistant, you can control playback, group devices, and automate audio routines directly from its intuitive interfaces.
This guide explains how to integrate your WiiM devices with Home Assistant.
The WiiM driver for Home Assistant has already been submitted for review and will be available in Home Assistant soon.
How to Add WiiM Devices to Home Assistant
Before You Begin
- Install the latest Home Assistant and run it. For details, see Installation - Home Assistant.
- Ensure your WiiM device is set up via the WiiM Home app.
- Ensure your WiiM device and the device running Home Assistant are connected to the same network.
- Verify that your WiiM device is running the latest firmware to ensure compatibility with Home Assistant.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Open a web browser on your PC to access Home Assistant at http://homeassistant.local:8123/.
Note: Alternatively, you can use the Home Assistant app on your mobile device to perform the following operations.
- Go to the Settings tab on the left sidebar. Your WiiM device will be automatically discovered.
- Click the Add button under your WiiM device to add it to Home Assistant.
- Optionally, assign your WiiM device to an area.
- Once added, your WiiM device will appear in the Overview tab.
Playback Control
After your WiiM device is successfully added to Home Assistant, start playing music on your WiiM device. Once playback begins, the Now Playing bar will appear in the Overview tab, allowing you to control playback.
In addition, click the three-dot icon (⋮) in the top-right corner of the Now Playing bar to open the full playback controls, as shown below:
Here, you can:
Play/Pause, skip to the next or previous track.
Adjust the volume.
Enable shuffle mode or repeat mode.
Select the input source.
Choose the audio output.

Group and Un-Group WiiM Devices
If you add multiple WiiM devices in Home Assistant, you can group them to create a synchronized playback, or un-group an existing group.
Group
To group WiiM devices, follow these steps:
- Go to the Developer tools tab.
- Set the Action field to Media player: Join, then choose WiiM devices.
- Click PERFORM ACTION to complete the process.
Un-Group
To un-group WiiM devices, follow these steps:
- Go to the Developer tools tab.
- Set the Action field to Media player: Unjoin, then choose WiiM devices.
- Click PERFORM ACTION to complete the process.
WiiM Device Configuration
Go to the Settings tab > Devices & services, then select your WiiM device to access its device settings.
Then, you can trigger specific actions:
- Restarts the device remotely to fix connection issues or apply changes without needing physical access.
- Syncs the device's clock with your Home Assistant server to keep scheduled playback and automations accurate.
Tips for Smooth Integration
- Ensure your network is stable, as both Home Assistant and WiiM devices rely on network performance.
- Regularly check for updates for both the Home Assistant system and WiiM devices to maintain compatibility.
- If issues arise, consult a certified installer or contact WiiM support for further assistance.
