The WiiM Ultra, WiiM Amp, and WiiM Amp Pro feature the USB media library, allowing you to browse and play your music directly from a USB device (e.g., a USB disk, SSD, or HDD). This tutorial provides the best practices to ensure a smooth and enjoyable music experience while using your USB music library with these devices.

Initial Setup: Index Your USB Music Library

Before browsing and playing music from a USB device, you have to perform an initial indexing process. This will scan your USB device and create a music library, ensuring that all your music files are correctly loaded into the system and ready for browsing and playback.

For detailed instructions, see Building and Managing Your Advanced USB Media Library on WiiM Amp/WiiM Amp Pro/WiiM Ultra.

Browse and Play Your USB Music Library

Once your music library is indexed, it is organized into various views/categories, making it easy to browse and discover your favorite music.

You can explore your library using the following views to find the music you want to play:

  • Albums: Browse music by albums, which groups your tracks based on the album they belong to. This is ideal if you prefer to listen to an entire album from start to finish without interruptions.

  • Artists: Browse your music by artist to explore all albums and tracks from a specific artist. This is useful when you want to immerse yourself in the works of a particular musician or band.

  • Tracks: If you know the specific track you want to play, you can browse and select individual tracks.

  • Playlists: If you have playlists stored on your USB device, you can easily browse and select one. For details about playlists, see Creating M3U Playlists Compatible with WiiM Devices.

  • Genres: Browse your music by genre to explore different musical styles and categories. This is ideal for finding music that matches your current mood.

  • Folders: If you prefer to organize your music in folders, you can browse by folder structure.

Once you've found the music you want to play, tap a single track or tap the Play buttonto start playback.

You can also adjust playback options to enhance your listening experience:

  • List Play: This is the default playback mode, ensuring that your songs or albums play in a sequential order.

  • Shuffle PlayUse shuffle mode to play your tracks in a random order. This is perfect for when you want a more dynamic and varied listening experience.

Search in Your USB Music Library

The USB music library allows you to quickly find your favorite songs, albums, artists, and more using the search function. Whether you're looking for a specific track or browsing an artist's collection, search helps you save time by directly locating the content you want. You can search by various criteria, such as, Top, Albums, Artists, or Tracks.

Loudness Normalization with Replay Gain

The USB media library supports the Replay Gain feature, which normalizes playback volume across your music tracks, ensuring consistent levels and providing a smoother listening experience.

This feature offers two settings:

  • Track Gain: Normalizes the volume of each track to ensure consistent playback levels, making it ideal for playlists or shuffle mode.

  • Album Gain: Normalizes the volume across an entire album while preserving track differences, perfect for a full album listening experience.

For more information about Replay Gain, see How to Use Replay Gain via the WiiM Home App.

Album Cover Display

The USB media library supports displaying local album covers for your music. During the library building process, the system parses the local music files to extract and display the embedded album covers. This ensures that the correct album cover is shown during playback and while browsing your library, enhancing your overall listening experience.

Currently, this feature only supports local album covers and does not fetch online album covers.

In the future, when the USB media library integrates with the MusicBrainz database, it will help users automatically complete and optimize metadata.
