This article will guide you through using an external microphone for Room Correction in the WiiM Home app. With an external microphone, you can achieve more precise acoustic measurements for your space.

Recommended External Microphones

For the best results, we recommend using a calibrated external microphone. Popular choices include:

  • UMIK-1

  • iMM-6(C)

  • Other models with a calibration file. A calibration file is essential to ensure the most accurate measurement results.

An external microphone typically comes with a USB or headphone plug. Ensure that the microphone is compatible with your smartphone or tablet.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Connect the External Microphone

Plug your external microphone into your smartphone or tablet, usually via USB or headphone jack.

2. Launch the WiiM Home App

Open the WiiM Home app on your smartphone or tablet.

3. Import the Calibration File (if available)

If your microphone has a calibration file, download it from the manufacturer's website and save it on your device. Then, follow the instructions in Tutorial: Microphone Calibration File Import in WiiM Home to import the calibration file to the WiiM Home app.

4. Run the Room Correction Process

Start the Room Correction process in the WiiM Home app and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. The app will guide you through the steps to measure your room’s acoustics using the connected microphone.

Common Questions

Q: What is the role of my smartphone during Room Correction?
A: Your smartphone plays a central role in the Room Correction process. It:

  • Captures audio from the connected external microphone.
  • Uses the calibration file for accurate analysis.
  • Displays the measurement results and applies the room correction EQ settings.

Q: Does the WiiM device detect the microphone directly?
A: No. The WiiM device does not directly detect or interact with the microphone. The external microphone is connected to your smartphone or tablet, and the Room Correction process is fully managed by the WiiM Home app.

Q: How does the signal flow during measurement?
A: During the Room Correction process:

  • The speakers play test tones.
  • The microphone captures the sound in the room.
  • The smartphone analyzes the audio data using the calibration file (if provided).
  • The WiiM Home app then creates and applies a custom EQ profile to optimize your listening experience.
