The WiiM Home PC app offers a music library feature for you to easily manage and access your music on your PC. If you already have a local music library on your PC, it is still beneficial to use the app to manage the local music library, as the app will create an index for the local music library, making it easier to navigate and access your music. This tutorial will guide you through managing your music using the WiiM Home PC app.

How to Build a Music Library for Local Music

Once you add a music folder to the WiiM Home PC app, the app will automatically build a music library for music in the folder.

Follow these steps to add a music folder:

  1. Prepare music tracks in a local directory or a network directory.

Note: If music tracks are in a network directory, create a network drive on your PC for it. For instructions, refer to File sharing over a network in Windows or Connect your Mac to shared computers and servers.

  2. Launch the WiiM Home app on your PC.

  3. Click My Music at the top-left corner. The My Music page will appear on the right.

  4. Add your music folder using one of the following options:
     - Option 1: Right-click on the My Music page and select Add Folder from the menu.
     - Option 2: Drag and drop the music folder onto the My Music page.
     - Option 3: Click the
icon to open My Music Settings, then click + Add Folder.

Note: The WiiM Home app automatically adds the default music folder on macOS (~/Music ) and Windows (C:/Users/<USER>/Music).

  5. Repeat these steps to add more music folders if you want to.

Once a music folder is added, the music resources in the folder will be automatically organized in the My Library section.

The WiiM Home PC app may take some time to organize music resources, depending on the number of files and their storage location. For instance, if the music is stored on a USB drive, it may take longer to complete.

Building a music library does not alter or copy the actual music files in the folder. Please ensure your music files remain accessible in the folder even after the music library is built.

How to Explore the Music Library

Once music folders are added, you can explore music resources in the My Library section, organized by Genres, Albums, Artists and Tracks.

Genres

The Genres page categorizes your music by genre, such as Blues, Pop, Rock, and more. Simply tap a genre to view the tracks under that category.

Albums

The Albums page organizes your music by individual albums. You can search for specific albums and sort them alphabetically.

Artists

The Artists page displays a collection of artists from your music library. You can search for specific artists or sort them alphabetically.

Tracks

The Tracks page lists all the individual tracks in your music library. You can easily browse through the tracks or search for specific ones within the library.

How to Re-build a Music Library

The WiiM Home PC app can automatically update the music library when there are changes in the specified folders.

However, for significant changes, you can also manually rebuild the music library by following these steps:

  1. Open the WiiM Home PC app.

  2. Click My Music at the top-left corner. The My Music page will appear on the right.

  3.  Click the
icon to open My Music Settings, then click Rescan.

  4. Once the rescan is completed, the music library will be up to date.

How to Set Up a Media Server

By default, the Enable DLNA server setting is turned on in the My Music Settings page, allowing your PC to function as a media server.

For example, open the WiiM Home app on your mobile, go to the Home Music Share section, and you'll find the media server listed. For more details, refer to Building and Managing a Media Library from Your Media Server.
