- Scenario 2: How to Use WiiM Mini/WiiM Pro with AVR
This tutorial will guide you through integrating the WiiM Ultra, WiiM Pro Plus, WiiM Pro, and WiiM Mini with Audio/Video Receivers (AVRs) for optimal sound quality, covering two distinct scenarios based on the unique capabilities of these devices.
Scenario 1: How to Use WiiM Pro Plus/WiiM Ultra with AVR
The WiiM Pro Plus and WiiM Ultra feature high-quality DACs that deliver excellent analog audio. When using these WiiM devices with an AVR, we recommend leveraging their analog output via the Line Out port in conjunction with the AVR’s Pure Direct mode to preserve signal purity.
1. Connect AVR to WiiM Pro Plus or WiiM Ultra via Analog Port
Connect the AVR to the WiiM Pro Plus or WiiM Ultra via the Line Out port on these WiiM devices.
2. Enable Pure Direct Mode on AVR
Enable Pure Direct mode (or its equivalent) on your AVR.
Pure Direct mode (or its equivalent) bypasses DSP processing, delivering unaltered, high-fidelity audio directly to the amplifier for a more authentic and immersive sound experience.
Here are examples of how to enable Pure Direct mode (or its equivalent) on popular AVR brands:
- For Yamaha AVRs, press the Pure Direct button on the front panel or remote control.
- For Denon AVRs, press the Direct or Pure Direct button on the front panel or remote control.
- For Marantz AVRs, press the Pure Direct button on the front panel or remote control.
- Onkyo AVRs, press the Direct button on the front panel or remote control.
3. Customize Sound Effects using WiiM Home App
Use the WiiM Home app to customize sound effects (e.g., EQ and volume adjustments). This ensures that all DSP processing is handled by the WiiM device before the signal reaches the AVR, eliminating the need for additional DSP processing on the AVR and preserving signal purity.
Scenario 2: How to Use WiiM Mini/WiiM Pro with AVR
When using the WiiM Mini or WiiM Pro with an AVR, the recommended approach is to use the WiiM device's digital output (e.g., SPDIF Out, COAX Out) and let the AVR handle the digital-to-analog conversion.
1. Connect AVR to WiiM Mini or WiiM Pro via Digital Port
Connect the AVR to the WiiM Mini or WiiM Pro via the SPDIF Out or COAX Out port on these WiiM device.
Connection via SPDIF Out (for WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro):
Connection via COAX Out (for WiiM Pro):
2. Customize Sound Effects using WiiM Home App or AVR
There are two options for customizing sound effects (e.g., EQ and volume adjustments). You can choose the one that best suits your preferences and the capabilities of your AVR:
- Option 1: Use the WiiM Home App for Custom Sound Effects
Customize sound effects using the WiiM Home app, and then send the processed digital audio to the AVR. Make sure to disable the AVR’s DSP processing features to preserve the customized settings.
- Option 2: Use the AVR for Custom Sound Effects
Bypass DSP processing on the WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro using the WiiM Home app, sending bit-perfect audio to the AVR. Then, enable the AVR’s DSP processing features to apply your preferred sound effects.
For more details on bit-perfect playback, refer to How to Set Up Bit-Perfect Playback on WiiM Devices.
By following these guidelines, you can optimize your audio setup for the best possible sound quality and performance. Enjoy your enhanced audio experience!
