This tutorial explains how WiiM devices, including WiiM Amp, WiiM Amp Pro, and WiiM Amp Ultra, interact with a TV that supports HDMI-CEC and how to configure their settings for optimal use.

Understanding HDMI-CEC Behaviors

The WiiM devices provide an HDMI-CEC Power Control option that allows seamless integration with your TV. The behavior of the WiiM devices depends on whether the HDMI-CEC Power Control option is turned on or off.

HDMI-CEC Power Control: On (Default)

When HDMI-CEC Power Control is enabled, the WiiM device interacts with your TV as follows:

  • When the TV is Powered On:
  1. The WiiM device wakes up automatically.
  2. It automatically switches to the TV input mode and becomes available as an HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) source, even if the WiiM device is playing from another input source.

  • When the TV is Powered Off:
  1. The WiiM device will enter standby mode after a short delay.

HDMI-CEC Power Control: Off

When HDMI-CEC Power Control is disabled, the WiiM device operates independently of your TV. The following behaviors apply:

  • No Automatic Power Control: The WiiM device will not respond to your TV's power status. You must manually control the WiiM device's power.

  • No Automatic Switch to HDMI Input Source: If the WiiM device is playing audio from another source (e.g., Wi-Fi or Line In), it won't automatically switch to the HDMI input source. You must manually select HDMI for the WiiM device to function as the TV's external speakers.

  • Manual Power Control:
  • If the WiiM device is powered off using the WiiM Voice Remote, it will stop acting as the TV's external speakers, and the TV will play sound through its internal speakers.

  • When the WiiM device is powered on again using the remote, it automatically acts as the TV's external speakers, and you will hear the TV's sound through the WiiM device.

By understanding these behaviors, you can configure the settings to suit your needs, ensuring an optimal entertainment experience.

Configuring HDMI-CEC Power Control

To adjust the HDMI-CEC Power Control option for your WiiM device:

1. Open the WiiM Home app.

2. Go to the Devices tab and tap the Device Settings icon for your WiiM device.

3. Select Audio Input Settings.

4. Set the HDMI-CEC Power Control option to On or Off based on your preference.

By configuring these settings, you can achieve seamless integration of your WiiM device with your TV, enhancing your home entertainment setup.
