On Apple devices (e.g., Mac, iPhone, and iPad), there are two different ways to select a WiiM device as an AirPlay receiver: within an app or via the system audio output

These two methods behave differently. For the best experience, we recommend using AirPlay from within an app.

Option 1: AirPlay Within an App (Recommended)

You can select your WiiM device directly inside an app, such as, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music.

This method streams only the app's audio (music) to the WiiM device and does not include system sounds (e.g., notifications or alerts ). It is ideal for music listening.

For example, tap the AirPlay icon within Apple Music as shown in the screenshot below to select your WiiM device.

Option 2:  System-Level AirPlay

You can also select your WiiM device from:

  • Control Center (iOS and iPadOS)

  • Sound Output (MacOS)

This method sends all system audio—including music, notifications, and alerts—to the WiiM device.
