Overview
The Pre-Gain feature allows precise control over the input levels of individual sources before they reach the main volume control. By adjusting the Pre-Gain for each source, you can ensure balanced volume levels across all inputs, minimizing noticeable differences when switching between them. This results in a more consistent and enjoyable listening experience, whether you are using analog or digital sources.
Be cautious when increasing the Pre-Gain level. If the gain is set too high, it may cause the sound clipping or distortion, negatively affecting audio quality.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Pre-Gain
Follow these steps to utilize the Pre-Gain feature on your WiiM device through the WiiM Home app:
- Open the WiiM Home app.
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Tap the Device Settings icon
of your WiiM device.
- Select Audio Input.
- Tap the arrow icon next to Pre-Gain to expand the gain setting panel.
- Adjust the Pre-Gain value for each input by dragging the slider to your desired level.
If needed, you can reset all source inputs to their default Pre-Gain level (0 dB) by tapping Reset to Default.
Workaround for Balancing Volume in Group Playback with Pre-Gain
In multi-room or group playback, the Pre-Gain setting on the group lead device is not applied to the follower (linked) devices. The group lead uses its own Pre-Gain setting based on the selected input source, while each follower device applies only its own Wi‑Fi Pre‑Gain setting.
As a workaround, you can manually set the Wi‑Fi Pre‑Gain on each follower device to match the group lead’s Pre‑Gain value for the current input source. This will ensure balanced volume levels between the group lead and follower devices.
Proper use of the Pre-Gain feature can significantly enhance the performance and control of your audio system, leading to a superior sound experience and more professional output.
