This tutorial will guide you through using the 12V trigger output on the WiiM Pro, WiiM Pro Plus, and WiiM Ultra.

How the 12V Trigger Works

The 12V trigger output on WiiM devices, rated at 220 mA, can be connected to an audio system such as an amplifier or an audio video receiver with a 12V trigger input.

When the WiiM device starts to play a music, it raises the voltage on the 12V trigger rail, signaling the connected audio system to power on. This reduces the time it takes for the audio system to activate and start outputting audio to your speakers.

When the WiiM device enters standby mode, it lowers the trigger's voltage, signaling the connected audio system to return to standby.

You can adjust the standby mode duration to control when the trigger voltage is lowered.

The response of the connected audio system may vary depending on the manufacturer's design. For example, some amplifiers may have their own timeout settings.

For specific details on the trigger input of your audio system, refer to the manual.

Compatible 12V Trigger Connectors

The table below lists the types of compatible 12V trigger connectors for each WiiM device:

WiiM DevicesCompatible Connector Types
WiiM Pro and WiiM Pro Plus
  • General 2.5 mm Mono TS connector (Aux type)
  • General 2.5 mm Stereo TRS connector (Aux type)
WiiM Ultra
  • General 3.5 mm Mono TS connector (Aux type)
  • General 3.5 mm Stereo TRS connector (Aux type)

Enable Auto-Sensing for the 12V Trigger Output

To ensure the 12V trigger output work correctly, it is recommended to enable the auto-sensing feature on your WiiM device.

This feature allows your WiiM device to automatically detect signals from physical input interfaces (e.g. Line In, HDMI, and Optical In) based on the capabilities of your WiiM device. Your WiiM device will then adjust the voltage on the 12V trigger rail accordingly.

Follow these steps to enable the auto-sensing feature:

  1. Open the WiiM Home App.

  2. Navigate to the Device tab.

  3. Tap the gear iconto access Device Settings.

  4. Select Audio Input.

  5. Enable auto-sensing on any of the Line In, HDMI, and Optical In input interfaces, depending on the input interface(s) you are using.
